About the Opportunity   
    

We are looking for a veteran leader who will lead the User Data and Analytics (UDA) group in Bangalore. The overall UDA mission is to provide actionable data and analytics that drive the best decisions for us, our advertisers, and our publishers. The UDA group is responsible for data systems and analytics end-to-end and provides analytical capabilities and insights for company's internal and external customers. Underlying company's product strategy is a need for integrated data across our audiences, publishers and advertisers. The UDA group is chartered with handling data at company's-scale and make data into a competitive advantage for us supporting our vision to bring personal meaning to the Web.

Responsibilities include development of systems & tools to enable instrumentation, data aggregation, data reporting, data analytics and experimentation. You will be responsible for product plans, design, delivery, and operation of these systems & tools. You will be expected to drive continuous improvements in development processes and capabilities. Active participation in shaping the product roadmap & defining long-term strategy will be expected.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Hire and manage a large team of world-class engineers, architects, and managers.
  • Deliver on key project initiatives that are part of company's User Data and Analytics roadmap.
  • Deliver strategic thinking about User Data within company at a product level as well as from a systems architecture/concept level including details of operational hardware and datacenter complexities.
  • Drive the re-architecting of key components of company's Data infrastructure with the goal of providing services to other product teams within company (and to external partners) in order to improve the overall insights into the business.
  • Work closely with product management to solicit and unify requests from a large number of internal customers into a common strategy and implementation roadmap.
  • Help in the creation of a product vision and drive it forward every day.
  • Take projects from concept to deployment, using creativity, leadership, cross-functional management, and critical thinking.
  • Deliver new products and product updates within budget and on time, while maintaining world-class quality standards
  • Foster an environment supportive of innovation and for the continuous generation of new innovative technologies and platforms within the User Data and Analytics team.
  • Help ensure proper alignment of development activity against established priorities.
    Facilitate direct and efficient communication between remote teams – especially between the Bangalore team and key stakeholders in the US and elsewhere.
  • Proactively identify, handle and escalate issues that arise. Directly interact and manage communication with peers in engineering and other related functional groups.
  • Providing strong leadership to your team, in both management and technical aspects.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience building scalable software product used by millions of users simultaneously. Experience with internet enabled product strong PLUS.
  • Experience in R & D environment – rather than regular application development
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science is required. MS or PhD in Computer Science preferred.
  • At least 15+ years experience in senior software engineering management positions with at least some of it in products/organizations involving highly scalable, large-footprint, distributed systems.
  • Record of recruiting and training successful, highly talented teams.
  • Demonstrated track record of successful development and deployment of high quality software products.
  • Should have had strong influence in direction of product roadmap in previous roles.
  • Understanding of scalability considerations in designing high-performance distributed systems is important. 
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills to work with people from a variety of technical and cultural backgrounds.
  • Track record of successfully working with distributed and remote teams. Experience with matrix management and in leading and managing geographically distributed teams of engineers a big plus.
  • Prior second-line manager experience for 5+ years; experience with organizations sized @ 50-100 people is a big plus.
  • Self starter / high energy, deadline-driven, dependable and can deliver results with aggressive deadlines.
  • Attention to detail, hands on, team player (flexible with assignments), and can-do attitude.
  • Outstanding people skills.
  • Strong problem solver with the ability to influence people and drive results in a matrix organization while building long term positive and collaborative relationship.

Strong project management skills.
